Draught Cask Ales
Here at Pivo we pride ourselves on the quality of our cask beers.
We rotate them constantly, so when one runs out we rack another in its place.
As you will see we have no cold cellar, so the casks on view at the back of the bar are the ones from which you get your pint. This sometimes means that we may only have one or two available because the others are settling, however this ensures the beer is as fresh as can be.
During the summer months, we cool the beers using chiller probes in the top of the casks; please feel free to ask any of our staff how they work, or indeed any other questions relating to the beers and how we keep them. We will be only too happy to answer them to the best of our knowledge.
As a free house we can hand pick our beers, and generally do so based on certain things; either, we love the beer, suggestions from customers and other managers or landlords, or we know that the brewery has an excellent pedigree, and history of brewing great beer.
These are some of the breweries that you will find regularly represented at Pivo: Roosters & Outlaw, Black sheep, Brew Dog, Hambletons, Black Dog, Copper Dragon, Moorhouses, Osset, Timothy Taylor’s, and many others.
Please ask at the bar for details of what beers are currently available, what is coming soon, or see the blackboard at the bottom of the stairs.
Roddiny Pivovar Bernard
Located in the Moravian Highlands within the Czech Town of Humpolec, Bernard was formerly state owned until purchased by Stanislav Bernard following the Velvet Revolution in 1991. After years of growth and acclaim the brewery formed a strategic partnership with Belgium Brewer Duvel Moortgat during 2001.
Bernard Beers are 100% natural and non-pasteurised resulting in outstanding flavour, aroma and clarity.
No chemical intervention is allowed during the bottom fermented brewing process and only the finest Moravian malt, spring water and pure source saaz hops are infused to create a perfect pilsner conforming to the purity laws. The beers are rested within the underground Lagering tanks and matured for up to 12 weeks. A quality product will only be created from the perfect natural ingredients with the right process and time. It cannot be driven by cost or convenience. For this reason the brewery’s motto translates as ‘in our own way’. Bernard has won countless awards throughout the world including the coveted Pivex Gold Medal and most recently the 2006 IBC Award for the Worlds Best Premium Lager.
